You are thinking of citric acid, which is synthesized sometimes using a black mold. Citric acid is not the same as ascorbic acid. Excellent. I believe humans and two other species do not make their own vitamin C. Dr Bruce Hollis did work on prenatal moms with vitamin D3 and they fared much better improving their 25hydroxy. He also did an FDA approved study which showed shrinkage of prostate tumors with D3. A woman supplementing with Lugols iodine will have a smarter child since the neural pathways require sufficient in the mother to form properly. I would rather have a DVM than an MD take care of me.

Interesting. I have 5 children and each one has progressively come faster than the last. I also do not feel contractions until it’s time to push. My last baby, was born at 41 weeks within 20 minutes of me waking up from sleeping peacefully to my water breaking. I had about 10 minutes to lay chux pads down and changed the sheets on my bed before I felt the urge to push and I delivered my baby by myself in the hallway. I’d be a little nervous taking vitamin c if the result is a faster, easier delivery, I might actually just sleep through it 😂

Not really, my mom had fairly fast deliveries also, but after I wrote this I realized I drank copious amounts of lemon water and nettle tea (which is high in vitamin c) with my last baby, who was my fastest delivery.
Love it that more people are coming to realize that human beings don’t make vitamin C and our diet has been reduced in vitamin C and we all require more for best health. People easily fall for the myths which are emotional not based in reason. Pharma loves the myths. One of our favorites is not a vitamin c myth, but the no honey for infants myth. Complete garbage info that has been very successfully propagated throughout the world.

If you used to sunburn and you don’t now, or don’t burn badly, then you likely are making ascorbate. That would be an effect. I started taking olive leaf extract yesterday that has a high level of Hydroxytyrosol.

It is not just Vitamin C that people are short of.
With the campaign against table salt in food ,blood tests of primary school kids in the state of Victoria, Australia showed most were iodine deficient. For decades people were told to always buy iodised table salt. It is important for mental/ brain function.
With the school campaigns of slip, slop,slap to reduce skin exposure to the sun, many people, especially school kids and indoor people have no sun exposure or sun tans so they are vitamin D deficient. At its worst, rickets ( weak bones)is the disease of deficiency of sun exposure.

Ascorbic acid was named vitamin C by its discoverers. It was originally named hexuronic acid when it was discovered. It's the molecule l-C6H8O6. It cures scurvy (scorbutic symptoms). It is anti scorbutic, ascorbutic, therefore it was named ascorbic acid.
Understanding ascorbate eliminates the pharmaceutical industry's influence, and ultimately will destroy the industry. There are plenty of myths and misinformation about ascorbate that are propagated by the pharma industry to keep you from the truth. Believe them at your own risk. The truth is very simple.

Generally nature makes the ascorbate salts such as potassium ascorbate and magnesium ascorbate and you are correct that ascorbic acid is most often a synthetic form of C and the natural form is ascorbate. I take calcium ascorbate every day and even more when I catch an illness
Dr. Thomas Levy makes a good science-backed argument for no calcium supplementation in his book "Death by Calcium" and the followup book "Magnesium, Reversing Disease." At 65, I take about 60grams of ascorbic acid a day, sometimes add baking soda to make sodium ascorbate, and supplement minerals separately.
Fermented sauerkraut has the most Vit C. Also sour dough bread, raw milk.
